I just posted today about the vegetable *cough* 'garden' I'm trying to create for my daughter here: http://abeautifulaura.blogspot.com/2011/05/auras-garden.html and I'm just so excited about it! I'd love to see more of your plants :).https://www.blogger.com/profile/02805389773476132678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5035717604681554803.post-50190604496460528752011-05-20T21:58:22.611-04:002011-05-20T21:58:22.611-04:00@dusti: chickens rule for pests. I'm not sure why since I don't eat eggs... but who knows maybe Marlowe will want eggs.

@kara: check out the first website I posted. It has a TON of tomato links. My biggest problems with tomatoes were/are aphids and in my home before: hornworm/cornworms. The spray works great on aphids, so do lady bugs. Picking through your plant is the best way to handle the hornworm caterpillar guy. I'm actually thinking about doing strawberries... I don't know much about growing them other than they require full sun and get microscopic little buggies around the leaves <3Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509552311148450540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5035717604681554803.post-84220573556849575752011-05-20T19:28:12.624-04:002011-05-20T19:28:12.624-04:00Thanks for the advice. I have NEVER even considered that- but what a fantastic idea!

As for the pests, and you know we're not vegan, our chickens help themselves to those critters. If we find any, we pluck them off and relocate them to the other side of the yard. Our feathered friends are great foragers- which keeps our garden safe from bugs, saves us money (because chickens might be little, but they eat like pigs), and takes almost no effort on our part! I just advise against turning chickens loose when you have teeny seedlings- apparently, they love sprouts!

As far as gardening clothes, I wear whatever! I do, however, have a pair of lavender Wellingtons that I got at a local farm store on clearance for $17! Best. Shoes. Ever. :)

I was thinking... have you ever tried sprouting? It's instant gratification gardening that takes very little effort on the part of the busy mom! I used to buy them until I realized how easy it was. And the kids love scarfing them down, too. <3Dustihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08348673503110151709noreply@blogger.com
