Step Into The Kitchen

I think Michael Pollan said it best when he said, "I don't want to lecture people into the kitchen. I want to lure them in." I struggle more often than not to find that gentle balance of inspiring and not lecturing people--- with a lot of things, but especially when it comes to food and earth health.

I touched on this in a recent article I was in, but I'm working on not living in that 'all or nothing' mentality. While Blue Apron isn't 100% organic, they do a great job at bringing people away from processed foods, packaged foods, back into real food, and luring people in the kitchen. And for me? I absolutely think thats a wonderful thing. I know for myself, especially--- finding myself not only in the kitchen, but comfortable in the kitchen-- or at least learning in the kitchen was the beginning of my story into real food and real health. That's truly the first step. I hope that you guys can come to this space and find inspiration here--- from someone who's not perfect, but trying every single day to take little steps to make a difference in my own life and in other people's too. I hope this place makes you want to embrace and be grateful for a sunny warm spot in the sun, invites you to feel comfortable getting to yourself, and shows you how lovely it can be to be in a whole foods kitchen mindfully enjoying every bit of the cooking process.

I mention it time and time again, but Blue Apron almost always offers us new recipes to try to break our own routines. It's also incredibly easy and convenient--- not just for people who already know how to cook, but for everyone. You don't need to be a cookbook author or be a chef to make a real meal with Blue Apron. They even do the shopping and portioning out for you-- making it super easy with a box of fresh, real produce straight to your door. Yes, it's not exactly the same novel idea of going to a farm and picking your produce, or growing everything yourself, but it's a HUGE step up from microwaving something from a freezer section with no real food in said package ;)

And they now offer a recycling program! You can either use the recycling location to find recycling options in your neighborhood or return your packaging for free via USPS. (learn more HERE)

the cutest mushrooms. non pesticide too <3

For us, cooking has been and will always be a huge part of our relationship, our home, and now our family. We eat out from time to time, we buy pre-made grocery store food from time to time, but 98% of our meals start in our kitchen, right on our counter and I wouldn't have it any other way. And rainy days? They're the best excuse ever to stay inside, make and eat something warming--- and then cuddle up to a nap after (which we totally did).

You know what he's smiling at? The rain! The rain makes this man so happy-- because the rain makes our plants happy ;)

something for him. and something for me. we both win.

  2. Blue Apron is such a great service for busy people who want to eat REAL food! I've been loving the documentary series on Netflix with Michael Pollan. Unfortunately it's so true that when people work long hours the last thing they want to do is cook some elaborate meal (myself included) especially when you walk in the door at 6:00PM. But there are ways to eat whole food meals with limited time, just takes some meal planning & prep ahead of time. Blue Apron seems like such a good option to mix it up though, I love seeing all the cool recipes you guys try out! Your blog is my food inspiration :)
