Hi There, I'm Sort of Back

So for those who don't know--- I know a few of you guys have been concerned--- I was in the hospital all last week. I'm home now, but not necessarily better-- but still on the serious mend. I started writing a post last night to update on whats going on and to share, what I think, is useful knowledge--- but my energy is still on the low side. It's a work in progress.

The short update: I caught a case of C. Diff. from the antibiotic, Cleocin, I took last month. And a lot of other stuff happened in-between. My once striving gut is now struggling. It's going to be a long battle. I'm working on the longer post--- but I didn't want to leave this space empty any longer, because I've never been away from the blog this long. I'll have another post up tomorrow and probably the next day too. In the meantime, I'll be in and out of doctors visits (two today alone) and I'm working on building up my now malnourished body.  I hope you guys do continue to visit this space--- and I hope to have it back to normal sooner rather than later, because I really do love this place. Thanks for being here. I'll be back. Good vibes greatly appreciated.

xoxo

ps. thank you for all the emails. seriously. means a lot.

  1. So good to see a post from you, I was worried where you were, it's so unlike you to drop off the radar. I'm so sorry to hear you've been ill and in hospital, it sounds really nasty. I'm very glad you're on the mend, I do hope you have a speedy recovery, although I know things like this can knock you sideways for quite a while. Look after yourself Drea, I'm sending you my very best wishes. CJ xx

  3. Same thing happened to me and I can't recommend strongly enough the two things that I am convinced saved my life: Bacillus Coagulans and S. Boulardii. I decided to treat it naturally because I thought it was sad that something that was caused by antibiotics is also treated with antibiotics. I also took grapefruit seed extract, oregano oil, raw garlic and drank a ton of electrolyte water and liquids. It is such a terrifying thing to go through. Thank you for talking about it because people actually die from it and yet there's very little information available about it. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to share with you what I did. By the time I was diagnosed with the C. Diff (they kept testing the stool samples for the wrong things!), I wasn't having any symptoms and was on the road to recovery. But it was a loooong road. I hope you feel better very soon!

    1. Yeah, I'm about a month in now--- I was trying to get better on my own until my body just kept collapsing :/ I'm on the vancomycin now, taking probiotics, and eating fermented foods, sometimes a few drops of oregano. Hoping to really turn it around. I hate that more people don't know about it--- up to 29,000 deaths a year. We're doing something wrong.

    2. To be honest, I'm two years out and still have some issues with exhaustion and other things that I think the C Diff kind of started, resulting in my body having some damage that is either irreversible or going to take a long time to reverse. I saw below that you had issues with Flagyl. So did I! I actually had psychosis from that stuff! Couldn't sleep for days, kept twitching. It was so scary! Then I was switched to Clindomycin, which resulted in the C Diff. I remember asking my friends if they would give me a home-style fecal transplant. I was soooo desperate and I know there are people that have done that and it's worked. I can't stress at least the S. Boulardii enough. It's cheap for a big bottle (I use the Jarrow brand) and you can take it numerous times a day and it completely stopped the D for me. Just take it and all probiotics as far away from your Vanco dose as possible, so it has some time to work and not get killed by that. Seriously, if you have any questions at all, I am happy to help! You are doing the right things and on the road to recovery!

  8. Probiotics are your friend - have to make them a regular part of your daily intake. I had C. Diff many years ago and was carted to the hospital in an ambulance. Diarrhea sucks - particularly that.

    1. I take in probiotics almost daily anyway---- the two-three weeks before I was diagnosed I was even drinking somewhere around 3 or 4 kombuchas a day. Def. added a more serious probiotic pill and upped the fermented food game this week though :/ Tired of this shit, literally.

  10. Hi Drea! I'm glad you're better! I don't mean to intrude with this comment and I don't want to stress you out... I just want to share what I've studied in class in case it can be useful: I was wondering if your doctors have spoken to you about a fecal microbiota transplant, as I've studied it at class as a new therapy for C. difficile infection. Sending all the good vibes :)

    1. YES. Right now the doctors are telling me no no no no no. That it takes MANY failed medicine attempted before they will do it. I tried the Flagyl and had horrific side effects. I'm on the vancomycin now with very little problems--- except that it seems to be possibly coming back and I haven't even finished the full script yet. But if they give me the clear, I'm doing it.

    2. that was my first thought! I have read about this too, unfortunately not FDA approved yet, because they need time and data to make sure it's safe and effective. I really hope you recover before it's your only option. good news is, you're young and strong and your body can fight better than many hospitalized patients who acquire c. difficile. Sending prayers and good vibes!

  18. Hey Stranger! I've taken some serious steps away from the online world, but happened to come across this. I'm so sorry to hear this. If you need to chat at all let me know - Jonas went through some similar struggles this fall (huge part of why I'm not online). We sought out functional medicine for treatment and he healed his gut with the help of natural methods and supplements. I'm happy to share. Hang in there and hope you find healing and a healthy recover. xoxo
