Maybe not our first halloween, but definitely our first time trick or treating--- as a family of two AND as a family of three :) Marlowe probably could have been ready to do the whole dress up and door to door thing last year, but with it being the beginning of daycare life, the poor bug was sick last year. This year? She was ready (and excited), no one was sick, and magically (without asking) Alex had the holiday off of work! (His new job has been too good to our family!) I had been asking Marlowe just about everyday what she wanted to dress up as for halloween, but of course the answer changed EVERY single time I asked her. The costume she ask for most was a troll. It would have been fabulous, except it probably would have taken a haircut to get all her wavy locks sprayed up into a peek and I'm just not ready for that yet. So a ladybug it was--- the ONLY thing she found she wanted at the halloween store.
The weather was nice on halloween (it's actually the best it's been all year lately). After an easy day at home, we packed into the car and headed south to trick or treat with Steph's family. It was perfect. All the kids (there were six total?) were great, the neighborhood was busy, and Marlowe was a trick or treating expert from her very first house. Marlowe and Cameron were in charge of holding each others hands all night, which was perfect in every way. They're adorable together and Cameron is the sweetest kid ever. Steph already know, but I plan on stealing him for my own one day. The grownups followed the kids along-- while Marlowe had her very first (very successful) halloween night ever. I asked her which she likes better--- christmas or halloween--- and it's halloween for sure--- at least for now ;)
I've had a lot of people email me asking what I plan on doing as far as candy/vegan stuff/trick or treating/whatever---- well, this year, it's pretty easy. She's only three after all--- I can just offer her the vegan stuff (lollipops and things) and hand over the chocolatey-milk + carmine filled stuff to Alex. I'm sure it'll get harder each passing year, until she get's to the point where she can decide for herself what she wants to do. I'm not sure how it'll all work out, but I'm hoping candy trades will work--- regular candy for vegan candy or regular candy for other rewards. Day by day ;)
I hope everyone had a great halloween week/weekend. It's been kind of perfect over here. We're fighting off some potential colds, but otherwise, time around here has been spot on--- perfect weather, the beach, trolley rides, two plant sales (same sale, two different days), two parties, so many friends, and open windows! Happy new week friends-- look out for an awesome giveaway coming shortly :)
