Ladies That Brunch

We love having my mom in town. Extra attention for Marlowe, an extra hand for me, and extra company for both of us. Alex made three loaves of bread yesterday morning, so we decided to put it to good use and have a steamed artichoke, sun dried tomato hummus, and olive brunchday. While Marlowe isn't a fan of olives (I hated them up until a year ago), she loves, loves, loves her artichoke. She picks off a leaf, dips it in the dressing (yesterday was a garlic basil lemon dressing) and tears off all the meat. Is 'meat' the right term? It's gotta be, right? Either way, our lady date meal was fun and delicious. Marlowe told us stories of how she was going to take us to the zoo for french fries and ketch-up (she made sure to tell us she would pay) and how she was going to bring 'baby Trudy' to show her all the animals--- this girl, she's a talker and entertainer. Thinking about yesterday (and staring at a whole loaf still sitting on the counter) is making me hungry.... soooooo... I think I might go for some more olives and bread... right... now.

Happy Thursday!

  3. yes, meat is what I call the inside of an artichoke too! also, I was never a big olive fan until the past few years and I go through phases with them...I love them for a while then don't eat them again for months!

    1. I'm super picky about my olives. I like everything super acidic, except for olives. I like those buttery :)

    1. I get that a lot, too! I thought it was just me. I usually have to refresh the page a couple of times, and then it works. Sometimes it doesn't work, though :-(

    5. Mine did that a few weeks ago, too, because Jordan did work on my blog. I freaked my freak. I had to go re-code my html codes. Meh. It was a mess. Glad it's fixed!!

  5. i had the same issue as lulu above. i exed out of the little error box and proceeded on to the site normally after that. i'd love to know what you make to dip your artichoke in. i can't stand mayonnaise(or even watching people dip their choke into mayonnaise) , so always dip mine into some lemon, garlic olive oil mix. is that what you do?

  13. That looks delicious as always. I'm growing artichokes this year, so I am looking forward to trying them like that, although they will probably be quite small to start with. I love Marlowe's tutu dress. How wonderful to be able to wander round all day dressed like that, I wish I could!

  17. The recipe I want isn't for the bread, but for the artichoke and the dipping sauce. I've never seen someone prepare and artichoke and I have no idea how much I'm supposed to trim off. The instructions I've found on the internet haven't been that helpful. Maybe I just need to keep looking and trying more artichokes :) But some ideas for vegan dipping sauce would be awesome. I love garlic and basil, so that one sounds perfect.

    1. I bought more artichokes, maybe I can do a post on the basics of artichoking and dipping :)
And 100% the type of artichoke you buy makes a difference. It's artichoke season right now, so you'll find all the better ones... keep your eyes open for the fatter leaved ones, those are the good ones!
