What Marlowe Eats

It's been a while, right? Well, due to not having a camera, this set is going to be a few older pictures from when my camera worked and... you guessed it: cell phone photos. I finally took the long trip out to the camera store and of course, without noticing (or checking) I had let my battery die down... so they weren't actually able to look at it. Fail. Also, they said I would most likely have to send it in to panasonic anyway, since they work mostly with canon and whatever else. Bummer. One day I'll do it. But yeah, anyways, Marlowe eating... I've got a feeling there is some teeth pushing through because meal time (and lots of other time) has been a bit more whiny. Sits, eats, screams, whines, eats more. It's a long process. Also, I've decided to only give her fruit before noon now (most of the time), because she will refuse food and run to the kitchen screaming and pointing for bananas. So now, the morning is loaded with mini waffles, dry cereal, apples, bananas, and whatever other organic fruit is in season. And the rest of the day has a few snacks, mostly meals, and a snack before bedtime. Okay! Onto the photos!

red quinoa, pearl couscous with peas and corn, cooked kale, avocado slices.
vegetable spring rolls deconstructed.
vegetable tofu scramble and avocado/ tomato on toast.
garam masala sweet potato (nope, still no dice on the sweet potato, even with garam masala), sliced avocado, cooked kale, and a chickpea patty
red quinoa, and from Whole Foods: honey tofu stick, broccoli, and confetti rice.
vegetable and black bean brown rice, avocado    //     bbq "chicken", mashed potatoes, baked beans, green beans with corn.
baked eggplant parm *which may or may not have had a few ting's smashed up for half the breading ;) but hey! I ran out of panko :)  over red sauce, mashed potatoes      //  avocado and grilled cheese! YAH!
These are older from my "help me I'm hormonal and nauseous days.
I've made it a thing to pick up a small box of pre-made food from Whole Foods every time I go. After hiking out there with a little one, it's nice to have a dinner break for the night.
random selections at Whole Foods    //    frozen pizza (gross. I had a craving. But yes, it's vegan)
black bean burger (similar to the chickpea patty), avocado   //   blueberry pancakes, orange slices, smoked paprika potatoes.

ps. I made a plantain and yuca stew tonight I plan on sharing... soon soon soon!

  3. I have some kale in my fridge originally destined for green smoothies, but my blender..man my blender!
Anyway..I may have to bite the bullet and try some cooked kale, I have never tried it, but if Marlowe loves it that much, it is at least worth trying! Have you posted a recipe on here for it? or could you?

  11. My daughter's 7 months old and we just started introducing solids this past month. I've been turning to your "what Marlowe eats" archived posts. Thanks for all the inspiration! I'm actually going to try your smoked salt kale recipe, even though she's too little to try it, because I'm dying to give it a taste. That Marlowe is a lucky lady to have you as a mom :)

  13. How much of the quinoa makes it into her mouth, and how much of it everywhere else? Sadly, I find myself avoiding messy foods for my 13 month old, so she ends up missing out a lot of healthy choices. I need to just get over it!

    1. Surprisingly: a lot. She seems to REALLY like quinoa. It's a shame I pretty much never make it for her... but I don't care for it. For messes: it depends whether or not she chooses to use her hand or a spoon that meal. Obviously, she does better with her hands. But I hear you on avoiding messy food. There are days (many of them) where I plan meals according to how difficult clean up will be. It sucks being exhausted after cooking, dishes, bath time, and everything else, to have to sit there trying to scrape up every bit of couscous on the floor. Every meal I throw a towel down on the floor, it helps. And another great thing (weather permitting) is putting the highchair outside. SO MUCH EASIER. Good luck :)
